Instructions

  1. 1

Mix the flour, salt, sugar and dry yeast in a bowl. (regular wheat flour would work too)

  2. 2

Add the lukewarm water while stirring.

  3. 3

Knead everything briefly into a smooth dough.

  4. 4

Cover the dough and let it rest at room temperature for 2 hours. It will roughly double in size.

  5. 5

Preheat the oven (230°C conventional (top/bottom heat) / fan oven: 210°C)

  6. 6

Place the dough on a floured work surface and cut it into 2 equal pieces.

ATTENTION: Do not knead, so that the air cannot escape!

  7. 7

Carefully shape each piece of dough into a long loaf and place it on a baguette baking tray.

  8. 8

Dust with a little flour and let rest, covered, at room temperature for about 10 min.

  9. 9

Bake the baguettes in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes.

Tip: Place a pot of water on the bottom of the oven!

  10. 10

Let cool on a cooling rack - done!

Notes & tips

Of course, instead of baguettes you can also shape, for example, Semmeln (German bread rolls)!

You can also freeze dough pieces to have on hand, so you always have fresh baguettes or Semmeln ready to bake - see the recipe "Dough pieces to keep in stock".
